The summer months in the Savoyarde region are beautiful. The temperature
gets in the 30’s, there are clear skies and peaceful mountains
all around.
Activities
In recent years Mountain Biking has really taken off, with 500km
of marked trails accessible from the 23 ski lifts open in the summer
which can carry bikes. Les Gets last year hosted the Mountain-biking
World Championships, so you can see they take it seriously.
It is really exhilarating, being taken to the top of a mountain
and freewheel, mostly, down. Your arms may ache a little from braking,
but at least you thighs won’t burn from pedaling! (see Photo

Whether you bring your own bike or hire one while there, you will
need somewhere to keep it at night or when doing something else.
Our apartment has a secure garage adjoining it, which makes loading
or unloading a hassle free operation.
Apart from biking, there is white water rafting 15 mins from the
apartment (see photos 1,
2, 3)
You may like to try Parapente. From the top of a ski run you take
a few steps taking off under a special canopy with an experienced
pilot and have a tandem flight lasting some 40mins. If you like
it, however, you can go on a course to enable you to fly solo. (See

Then there is rock climbing, summer sledging, mountain boarding-
a skateboard with large wheels- and of course miles and miles of
hiking.
Should you fancy some sunbathing, then Lake Montriond, 10minutes
from the apartment, is a large freshwater lake surrounded by trees
and paths. At one end is a patrolled bathing area, (although you
may swim in the whole lake) and restaurants. Many people enjoy some
quiet, warm hours here.
Towns and cities
Further afield there is Geneve, about 75mins away, for a visit of
the lake and old town. There is an enormous underground carpark
right in the centre of town from which all the main sites are only
minutes walk away.
Lausanne can be visited by ferry across Lake Geneve from Evion-les-Bains.
Mont Blanc, Europe’s highest peak, and the famous town of
Chamonix are only 40 mins away.
There really is an awful lot to do in the Alps in the summer. If,
like our family, you have become bored with beach holidays, then
this may be the place for you!
