We stayed in lots of different rental apartments in the Alps before
taking the plunge and buying our own. Why did we decide to buy?
- There are lots of reasons, but some of them are: -
-
Our children Matthew 13 & Andrew 11, are bored with beach
holidays. Two lively boys need things to do summer and winter,
and there's plenty to keep them occupied here.
-
In general apartments in the Alps are quite small.
-
As many beds as possible squeezed into the apartments, e.g.

|
20 sq metres |
|
4 person |
1 bedroom |
|
25 sq metres |
|
6 person |
2 bedroom |
|
40 sq metres |
|
8 person |
-
Furniture was often very limited and the same age as the apartment
- fine if you happen to be in a new apartment, but not so good
if your apartment was 30 years old.
-
Hygiene standards were often not what we would have hope for
-
Facilities were often limited to chipped crockery, antique
cutlery and an old fondue set
-
No wardrobe space to put your clothes
-
Dining area (if it had one) too small to sit together for
a meal.
-
Kitchen area too small to be used to prepare meals.
-
Limited living area to sit and relax.
We wanted to stay in an apartment which was clean, well equipped
and spacious. On one occasion 8 of us stayed in an 8 person apartment
with 3 bedrooms, but only 2 seats in the living room - and that
became a double bed at night!
Our apartment is a good size, especially by Alpine standard, (44
sq metres/470 sq ft) and we feel this is a great size for a family
of four - you've then got plenty of space and are not on top of
each other. We do have a double sofa bed in the coin nuit area to
sleep 6, but we would only recommend 6 people for a week - unless
you are great friends who are tolerant and never argue or get grumpy!
